An in-depth look at up and over garage doors

When choosing a new garage door, it can be difficult to know which type to go for. One of the possibilities is an up and over door, which as the name suggests opens in and up and over movement. These doors can be either manual or electric operated and are available in a range of finishes and colours. Up and over garage doors also benefit from the following features:

  1. Efficient opening mechanisms

Up and over doors open by runners moving along a track. When the door is fully open these come to a rest at the end of the track well. When an up and over door closes there is no space between the frame and the door itself.

  1. Safety features

Up and open doors can come with a number of safety features. These include protective caps on lever arms as well as flexible plastic rails which sit between the frame and the door. Both are designed to stop anything getting caught or trapped in the door by mistake.

  1. Security features

We are an official supplier of Hormann doors whose up and over designs incorporate a rotary catch lock. This lock enables the corners of the door leaf to be fixed to the frame when closed. This means is it very difficult for the door to be opened by force and that is it more secure than a bolt lock.
