Top tips for summer garage maintenance

Whilst garage doors typically have a long lifespan, this can only be achieved with regular maintenance. In order to ensure the durability of your door, it is a good idea to carry our inspections every so often to check that everything is in working order. In particular, it’s important to do the following:

  1. Wash your garage door

The first thing to do is to wash your garage door with warm water and mild detergent. Not only will this make it look better, it will also ensure that any dust that has collected over time is removed. It makes visual checks easier to carry out too.

  1. Perform a visual check inside

Once your door is clean carry out a visual check for any damaged or missing parts. Here, you should be looking out for any general wear and tear such as loose broken bolts, runners or hinges.

  1. Perform a visual check on the exterior

It’s important to check the outside of the door too in case there are any issues there. In particular, look out for any signs of rust damage as well as problems with the paintwork such as peeling or scratches.

  1. Listen out for issues

Take time to listen to your door too. When it opens and closes it should do so smoothly without too much noise. If it is loud or making a screeching sound, this is a signal that something is not quite right and needs to be addressed.

  1. Lubricate

Lubrication can help maintain your garage door and may remedy the noise it is making. Lubricate all parts using a 3 in 1 oil.
